We are a Design/Build firm specializing in financial institution facilities. We have an immediate job opening for a qualified Construction Staff Accountant for our office in Cincinnati, OH.
Role Description
The construction accountant will perform specialized construction accounting, job costing and financial reporting tasks for the company under the supervision of the Corporate Controller. This position will develop an understanding of contracts in process and work independently to properly classify, record, and maintain records of project revenue and expenses. This position is responsible for the day-to-day accounting functions, applying generally accepted accounting principles to prepare accurate and timely records and ensure appropriate internal controls are maintained. The candidate will work to maintain high levels of accuracy and attention to detail in dealing with financial data. The Staff Accountant will be able to communicate with a variety of personalities to provide a high level of customer service to both internal and external clients and vendors.
Key Job Duties and Responsibilities
- Review, code, and process vendor invoices and employee expense reports, ensuring timely and accurate payments.
- Process customer invoices, payments, and deposits, ensuring timely and accurate recording of transactions.
- Monitor aging reports and follow up on outstanding receivables to maintain a low outstanding record
- Work with internal departments to resolve billing issues.
- Manage, track and reconcile credit card expenses, ensuring expense policy adherence
- Conduct general ledger account reconciliations to ensure accuracy in financial reporting.
- Assist with month-end closing activities
- Assist in preparation for internal and/or external audits.
- Support the preparation of financial statements by compiling data and assisting in the analysis of trends
- Sales Tax
- Ensure compliance with GAAP and company policies during financial reporting.
- Participate in various accounting projects, including system upgrades, automation initiatives, and process improvement efforts
- Assist with internal and external audits by preparing requested documentation and responding to audit inquiries
- Oversee accounting aspects (AR, AP, Cost Accounting, JE's, Cash, etc)
- Provide analysis and explanation of account transactions.
- Knowledge of payroll.
- Other duties as assigned.
Experience and Skill Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting.
- 3+ years of experience as a staff accountant or project accountant
- Experience with work in process or job costing analysis.
- Working knowledge of AIA documentation and Draw process
- Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
- Proficient in Excel
- Ability to stay focused in a fast-paced, open environment.
- Ability to prioritize and manage a busy workload.
- Ability to communicate effectively.
- High attention to detail, planning, & organization.
- Ability to manage time and meet deadlines.
